A Body Among Mountains marks the inaugural solo exhibition of Hong Kong artist HO Siu Kee 何兆基 (b. 1964) with To Art House 嚮渡藝術空間, presented in collaboration with guest curator Kathy MAK 麥艷琼. The exhibition features over thirty sculptures, installations, and performance pieces. The artist began his residency at To Art House 嚮渡藝術空間 in 2024 and participated in its 2025 opening group exhibition, Memory Smuggler 九仞. Working inside a studio overlooking the lush, verdant mountains, he has produced several major new, large-scale pieces for his “making mountains” series. Working with raw timber, Yingde stones 英德石, and metal rods, these pieces form the core of this exhibition.
Since the 1990s, the artist has used his own physical body as a primary site, probing the philosophical triad of mind, body, and matter. Over time, the “mountain” has become central to his practice. For the artist, a mountain is not merely a natural landscape, but a spiritual realm extended from bodily experience — a repository of profound human history.
For this exhibition, the artist has penned five chanting texts that serve both as narrative chapters for the artworks and as the vocal score for his opening-day performance. By physically engaging with the sculptures and installations, the artist delineates a five-fold journey that begins with “making mountains.” Guest curator Kathy Mak 麥艷琼 contextualises the artist’s practice by framing his somatic perception and physical labour as a form of spiritual discipline — a practice that bridges the corporeal body with consciousness.
