LI Ning’s works employ an open-ended storytelling approach to composition. Viewers may discover connections among different paintings, with topics drawn from the real world, such as lands submerged by the sea, predictions of impending natural disasters, and refugees adrift on the ocean. There are also imagined, surreal scenes. These originally independent prints, created at different times, are collaged into a single composition, inviting the viewer’s imagination to weave new narratives.
